Cute little paper mache boxes are ready for you to finish with fabric or paint. These are made for small items -- rings, jewelry, keys -- any tiny treasure that deserves a special place of its own. :)
They come in a set of 6 as shown, two of each shape. The oval boxes measure about 2 1/4" wide by 2 1/2" long. The heart shaped box is about 2 1/2" by 2 1/4" and the rectangular box is approximately 2 1/2" by 1 3/4". All three styles are a tad less than 1 1/2" tall.
Many of the rusty shapes that Darice puts out aren't genuinely rusty -- they're finished with a baked paint-like coating which resembles dark brown rusty tin. Because it's a fake finish, when these get used and banged around, sometimes the finish chips off and the bare underlying metal shows through. I take care of these in a couple of ways; either I first sand the edges so that the whole thing looks as though it's supposed to be highly distressed or I touch up the spots with raw umber Ceramcoat paint. Another trick I haven't tried yet but I think will work would be to sand off as much of the original finish as possible and then use the magic mix of peroxide and bleach to rust the lids for real. Wouldn't that be cool?
