A nice piece for colonial primitive decorating, this black wrought iron courting candle holder measures about 7 inches tall and is coupled with a 6-inch diameter fluted burgundy pan.
In the colonial era, a candle such as this was the tipoff from a father to his daughter's suitor of how much time the man would have with the young lady. The lower the candle, the shorter the time. Hmmm. Perhaps I should try this my my daughters. There are a couple of bums who are chasing them that would get about 1/8-inch of candle time. I light the candle, sizzle zip, sorry fellas and out the door they go by the seat of their pants. In my dreams, I guess.
Anyhoo, the courting candle holder comes with the pan as shown, new from Colonial Tin Works, made in India.
