Although this prairie bonnet may fit an adult, it's designed and manufactured for decorative use only.
The bonnet is sewn from a tan and deep red homespun striped fabric which has been highly aged, stained and wrinkled to make it appear as if it's been around for a couple of centuries.
Of course I had to try one on to get an idea of size and it was indeed a perfect fit and I looked adorable. ;) We do some craft shows where Colonial or Prairie style clothing is a requirement, however, I would be reluctant to wear this particular piece. When I age sewn fabric pieces in my own studio I know the ingredients -- coffee, vanilla, tea, walnut ink, etc. This bonnet is made in China and I flat-out don't have a clue as to what they may have used to age and stain it and wouldn't want it against my skin.
Therefore, I'm recommending that this wonderful bonnet be used only as a decorative piece in the home. For the photos below, I placed it on one of my most rustic candlesticks (which looked great but is not included, sorry.)
To get an idea of the size, the brim is over 4 1/2 inches long, the entire cap is about 8 inches by 11 inches when it's lying flat and the top of the bonnet to the bottom of the ties is approximately 24 inches long.
Please keep in mind that colors in photos can vary when viewed on different systems. The lighting that I use for photography often makes an item appear brighter than it really is. This bonnet is a tan and deep red stripe homespun that has been drabbed down a bit by the aging stain. The bonnet comes new from The Early House Collection.
