Pinwheel placemat is pieced from 100% cotton homespun fabrics and measures approximately 18 inches by 13 inches. The manufacturer calls this placemat "tea-dyed." The colors do indeed resemble dark tea-dyed fabric although I believe that the item is not truly tea-stained; it's made from fabrics that are dark and colored to give the impression of a more aged appearance.
Now take it from me -- I quilt and my mother strip me of my thimbles if I put out pieces of the quality of this one. But then again, a fine quilter would probably charge a great deal more for a better item. In other words, the quality is lacking but the price is right. ;)
The mat shown in the photos is fairly representative of all of the mats which we have in stock. It's not perfectly rectangular, some of the pieces are not cut on the grain, the edge strips vary a bit in width and the quilting stitches are long and uneven.
However, it's exactly those same flaws that make this piece quite charming and suitable for primitive decorating. The mat isn't just great for use at the table -- it would be wonderful on a night stand or side table as well. The colors are rich and dark and would blend in perfectly with an Americana decorating scheme. The pinwheel design gives it a bit of a nautical look.
The placemat comes new with tag from Victorian Heart Company, Inc., made in India.
Oh, and I should mention that while the fabrics and the style stay the same from item to item, the placement of the fabrics vary so your mat will likely look a bit different from the one shown in our photo.
