Fun outhouse birdhouse for rustic and primitive decorating. :)
The main body of the house is cut from 3/4 inch pine. The roof and front door are cut from what my best guess would be as split pine -- it's got a pinewood like texture on the cross grain but the finish has an awesome striated unevenly ridged texture to it. The smaller pieces of trim are cut from 3/16 inch plywood and the whole thing is finished with a medium brown stain. The perch is a square nail.
This is a nice piece with a solid feel. The birdhouse does not appear to have a weather-resistant coating to it so I'd suggest that it be used strictly for indoor decorating or at the most perhaps outdoors in an area that is sheltered from rain and snow. The front door does not open nor is there a trap door for cleaning it out if a little birdie decides to nest in it.
The birdhouse measures 9 inches tall by about 6 1/4 inches wide and about 3 1/2 inches deep. The overall style of each birdhouse is the same, however, due to the irregularities in the wood each one of these looks a goodly bit different from the others so each is listed separately. The birdhouse in the photo is the exact one which you will receive when ordering. I think that this item would be a great addition to a primitive powder room and would also make a fun gift. This birdhouse is made in the U.S.A. by craftsmen in the area of Lancaster, Pennsylvania.
