This is a nice little item, there's room for a pillar candle with some fixins around the base while the overall look of the star stays in view.
The pan is lightweight metal and it's about 7 1/2" in diameter at the widest. The flat circular base is roughly 6 1/4" and the inset star measures almost 6" between the points. If you're planning to put a candle into the star center, figure about 2 3/4" at the most for the size of the candle; a candle with a 3" base would already touch the inner corners of the star. The well of the star is about an inch deep if you're thinking about filling it with drieds or fixins.
The finish on this isn't genuine rust -- many of Darice's items like this one have a painted coating that is made to resemble dark rusted metal. On an item like this that's good though; it should be fine to place directly onto furniture or linens.
